18 August – Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Colonel General Ramil Usubov met the delegation headed by Commander of Frontier Troops of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Major General Kassem Rezayi.
During the meeting, the minister reminded of the centuries-long relations between two peoples. R.Usubov noted that stable friendly and good neighborly relationships, foundations of which were laid after the restoration of independence by Azerbaijan during the visit of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to Iran in 1993, are now being extended by the presidents of both countries.
It has been stated that results of integration processes between two states becomes apparent in all areas: economy, education, culture and other spheres. In this context, great responsibility rests with law enforcement agencies, including the internal affairs bodies which ensure public security.
Minister Usubov noted that such meetings create broad opportunities for joining efforts in the transnational organized crime and international terrorism prevention. He emphasized that cooperation in fighting against dangerous kinds of transnational organized crime which becomes global today and particularly against illegal drug trafficking has great potential and mentioned the importance of establishing its new trends.

Colonel General Usubov also noted that formal visits made by President Ilham Aliyev to Iran at different times elevated relations between two countries to higher standards. He expressed interest of the ministry in extending this cooperation.
Next, the guests were provided with information on the current sociopolitical and criminal situation in Azerbaijan, the work carried out in the republic in the area of strengthening of the state independence, democratic principles, and improvement of the mechanism of legal regulation of public relations. It has been emphasized that law enforcement agencies work closely with each other in taking complex measures against organized crime, international terrorism, extremism, separatism and illegal drugs and arms traffic.
Commander of Frontier Troops of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Major General Kassem Rezayi expressed his appreciation for cordial welcome and detailed information. He noted that such visits and implementation of provisions of the signed agreements meet interests of two friendly countries connected by common religion, culture and historical roots. This contributes to further development of relations in all areas including in the field of security, military sphere, economic relations and other areas.
Other issues of interest to the parties were also discussed by participants of the meeting.
