March 02 - Minister of Internal Affairs of the Azerbaijan Republic Colonel General Ramil Usubov received the delegation headed by Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Rashad Mahmood.

Having welcomed the guests, the Minister noted that friendly relations between two states have a rich history and is deeply rooted and mentioned that our national Leader Heydar Aliyev was paying much attention to establishment of these relations on solid foundations. The Minister emphasized that Pakistan was one of the states which first recognized Azerbaijan’s independence and always gives definite support to Azerbaijan on the international stage and within international organizations.

Further, Mr. Usubov gave brief information on the current criminal situation in our country, carried out reforms, new laws adopted in the country for the protection of human and civil rights and duties, achievement of positive results in the field of crime prevention and public order maintenance over the recent years, and reliable protection of stability and peace, and emphasized that such safe conditions are favorable both for our citizens and foreigners who carrying out activity in our country.
The Minister mentioned the progress and development which have been observed in all spheres over the recent years in the result of political will of the heads of states development and emphasized the importance of two intergovernmental agreements for cooperation in prevention of international terrorism, organized crime as well as illicit traffic in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors for the extension of relations between the Ministries of Internal Affairs of two states. Having emphasized the role of mutual visits in the development of interstate relations, the Minister spoke with deep satisfaction of the participation in the regional conference: The Strategies for Counternarcotic Actions held in Islamabad in 2012 and meetings with state officials of Pakistan including Minister of Internal Affairs.

Touching upon problems, the Minister stated that combating international terrorism being one of the main kinds of transnational organized crime, illicit trafficking in drugs, trafficking in human beings and irregular migration are always a prime focus and emphasized the importance of integrating efforts in effective prevention of such facts of global threat.

General Rashad Mahmood expressed profound gratitude for hearty welcome and detailed information, noted that friendly relations and brotherhood between two states are deeply-rooted and expressed his satisfaction with intensive development of these relations and stability and peace established in our country.
Having emphasized the importance of joint efforts in prevention of transnational organized crime including international terrorism and religious extremism, General Rashad Mahmood noted that it is important to share positive experience gained by both countries and put them into practice as well as to develop strategic partnership and friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan.
A number of other questions of mutual interest also were discussed during the meeting in a sincere and friendly atmosphere.
