April 25 - Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Colonel General Ramil Usubov received Earle D. Litzenberger, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of USA in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The Minister told about great importance attached to the development of relations between our country and USA after following independence and emphasized that relations of our states continue to evolve in all spheres based on mutual respect and trust and in accordance with national interests of both countries.
 Having informed the guest on the major law and democratic reforms carried out in the Internal Affairs agencies, Mr. Usubov told on improvement of operational and official activities in accordance with international norms and standards, efforts made for creation of a new legal and regulatory framework to places human rights and freedoms in the foreground, and drew attention to wide application of advanced information technology in crime prevention.

It was also mentioned that considerable efforts are made to control the criminal situation in Azerbaijan, maintain security of citizens and foreigners including foreign investors as well as create favorable conditions for them.
Having touched upon global security and combating terrorism as one of the most important areas of relations between our countries, the Minister stated that partnership relations with USA strengthened after the events of September 11, 2001 and noted that our state as a member of the anti-terrorist coalition is making its own contribution to common fight against this dangerous phenomenon.
It was noted that three National Action Plans have been implemented in our country since 2004 and an extensive legal framework was formed to provide complex and consistent fighting against trafficking in persons as one of the dangerous types of transnational organized crime. In continuation of this work, a draft National Action Plan was developed and presented to the government.

Ambassador Earle D. Litzenberger expressed his gratitude for hearty reception and detailed information, and satisfaction with the safe conditions and stability created in Azerbaijan within a short period of time both for nationals and foreign citizens.
He noted that USA appreciated the efforts made by Azerbaijan in various areas of crime prevention including combating terrorism and trafficking in persons, added that he will make every effort to further extend the cooperation between our countries and between the US Embassy and the Ministry of Internal Affairs during his diplomatic service.
The parties also discussed other matters of concern in friendly and businesslike atmosphere.
