 The delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan headed by Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Colonel General Ramil Usubov arrived on an official visit from September 24 to 25 to the Iran Islamic Republic at the invitation of Minister of Internal Affairs of the country Abdulrza Rahmani Fazli.
On the first day of the visit, Abdulrza Rahmani Fazli received Colonel General Ramil Usubov and his party.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Iran welcomed the guests and expressed his gratitude for receiving his invitation. He emphasized the development of cooperation between our countries, intensification of mutual visits and rapprochement between the Presidents of the states in accordance with our people’s interests.

Abdulrza Rahmani Fazli noted that National Leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev made an invaluable contribution to building relations between our countries based on mutual respect and friendship, and reminded of his visit to Iran in the capacity of the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Autonomous Republic of Nakhichevan. The Minister of Internal Affairs of Iran also noted that it was Heydar Aliyev who laid the basis for the stage of development of mutual relations between our states at the period of his second coming to power in Azerbaijan. It was emphasized that today Azerbaijan achieved great success in all areas in the result of the political course of Heydar Aliyev successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev, and security and stability in our republic is accepted as their security and development.
And then, Mr. Fazli shared information on the current criminal situation in the country and measures of combating crime including illegal drug trafficking carried out by law enforcement agencies, last year alone, 800 tons of narcotic substances were confiscated. Iran is often used by smugglers as a transit territory due to its favorable geographic location. Over 3 thousand police officers and border guards died a heroic death in this combating.

 Having expressed gratitude for hearty reception, hospitality, detailed information and kind words, Minister Ramil Usubov noted that President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev pays special attention to the development of relations with Iran and emphasized that today Azerbaijan-Iran relations are developing dynamically owing to the political will of the Presidents of both states and are sincere friendship and strategic partnership in nature that is meeting the interests of our peoples and states.
He also emphasized the necessity to strengthen jointly efforts in combating transnational organized crime which appeared against the background of processes currently occurring in the region and importance of extension of cooperation and exchange of information to ensure effective fighting against such crimes, especially illegal drug trafficking, trafficking in human beings and international terrorism.
R.Usubov further briefed about decisive measures taken in our country for crime prevention, the challenges our country faced in the first years of its independence including the military aggression of Armenia and its tragic consequences, reforms carried out after the return of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to power and resolute steps taken by the law enforcement authorities including the Ministry of Internal Affairs under his leadership to restore public and political stability and peace in our country and noted that today this policy is successfully continued in accordance with our national interests.

Colonel General Ramil Usubov also expressed condolences to families of numerous victims of the terrorist attack committed in the city of Ehvaz recently and noted that people in Azerbaijan took this tragedy with great sadness.
During the two-day visit, Minister, Colonel General Ramil Usubov held meetings with Chairman of the Iran Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme Council for National Security Ali Shamkhani, Commander of the Border Security Service General Gasem Rezayi and other officials. The Minister of Internal Affairs emphasized the importance of building closer cooperation to ensure effective fighting against organized crime and mentioned the necessity of exchange of best practices and information between police authorities for this purpose.

Having mentioned the sufficient experience of Iran in resolute combating illegal drug trafficking, the Minister noted that the Azerbaijan Police could benefit from this experience and emphasized the necessity to continue joint efforts aimed at maintenance of peace and public security in both countries against the background of intensified flows of our citizens and development of tourism between our states.
The parties also discussed other matters of concern during the meeting.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of our country to Iran Bunyad Huseynov also took part in the meetings.
