October 6 - Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Colonel General Ramil Usubov received Aleksandr Zuyev, the Assistant Secretary-General of UN for Rule of Law and Security Institutions, who is on an official visit to our country for the participation in the VI Baku International Humanitarian Forum.
Having welcomed the guest, the Minister expressed satisfaction with hosting numerous international social and political, cultural and sporting events in our republic and with the participation of A.Zuyev in the VI Baku International Humanitarian Forum.


Mr. Ramil Usubov noted that our republic has been a member of UNO for 26 years and mentioned the close relations established between the units of the most credible international organizations of the world and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He emphasized that our republic broadens bilateral relations to transform them into multilateral relations, carries out dynamic actions for Azerbaijan to take a worthy place in the international community as an independent state and makes its contribution to more effective activities of this organization responsible for global peace and security.

Further, the Minister informed the guest on the main rights and obligations of MIA, the current criminal situation, the challenges our republic had faced with in the first years of independence, occupation of our territories in the result of the Armenian aggression, as well as on the reforms carried out in all spheres of the public life including the internal affairs authorities upon the return of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev to power at the request of the people, and success achieved in crime prevention and public order maintenance.
It was emphasized at the meeting that Azerbaijan is a party to the appropriate UN Convention against Terrorism, Transnational Organized Crime, Illegal Drug Trafficking, Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons and protocols to it, and maintains effective cooperation with a number of special agencies and authorities. It was mentioned that in recent 5 years alone, over 500 law-enforcement officers took part in various events held in the republic and certain foreign countries at the initiative of UNO.

Having touched upon further professional development of the personnel, Ramil Usubov emphasizedstrengthening of logistics in the internal affairs agencies and broader application of up-to-date information and communication technology, and state-of-the-art scientific and technical achievements in their operational and service activities in the result of the supreme attention and care given by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the worthy successor of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev. It was also mentioned that the 102 Service and Safe City System were launched in the Ministry to provide prompt measures against any illegal acts and video monitoring of public tranquility.
It was also brought to the attention of the guest that all applications related to violation of human and civil rights and freedoms by the personnel are always in the focus of attention of the Ministry. Such applications are considered in a prompt and unbiased manner, results of investigation are duly reported and appropriate measures are taken.

Having expressed his gratitude for the reception and detailed information, Aleksandr Zuyev noted that he has witnessed large constructive work carried out in our country within a short term and continuous economic development. He added that stability and peace undoubtedly underlie this progress and social well-being, security issues are successfully addressed in Azerbaijan, law-enforcement agencies, including the police, worthily discharge their duties in this area, and expressed his confidence in further extension of cooperation between the UN agencies and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The parties also discussed a number of other matters of concern during the meeting held in a sincere and businesslike manner.
